Happy birthday to
Inara Sue Dorman
Last night I’m pretty sure the baby decided to move her body sideways. She’s been head-down & facing the right way for at least 3 months now, so of course she would give us a little scare 6 days before my due date. Sassy little thing! Anyway, I couldn’t tell today if she had moved back into place or not. I had a midwife appointment this morning & she felt around & wasn’t really convinced the baby was head-down again either, so she had me get an ultrasound right away. If the baby’s not head-down, they will offer the aversion procedure where a doctor tries to rotate the baby from the outside. I don’t know that I would accept that at this point considering there are some more natural things we could try first, there are some risks to that procedure, & it’s entirely possible that baby could still move head-down on her own. But anyway, the ultrasound showed she was head-down today, so all is well for now. I didn’t get to see her face at all, so it wasn’t a very exciting ultrasound other than that news. Also, she is measuring in at 7lbs 11oz, to which I said “Let’s hope not”…LOL. I have just had it in my mind that our baby will be 6 ½ – 7 ½ lbs at birth & if I go overdue (like most first-time moms do), that would put us at probably 8 – 8 ½ lbs. Let’s hope our Pink Kit training works! These ultrasound measurements aren’t entirely accurate though. They can be off quite a bit sometimes. And the tech asked me if the dad was tall when she was measuring the femur, so I think she just has some long legs that could be causing the weight estimate to be a little high. I guess only time will tell. So glad baby is looking healthy & isn’t breach though!
I am WAY behind on my blog updates & belly pictures. I’ll probably try soon to go back in & back-date some updates, but at this rate it could be after the baby is born.
Baby was poking a body part pretty hard out of my belly tonight & Ben & I were trying to guess what body part it was. Then he said probably the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard him say & almost made me cry. He said, “I can’t wait til she’s out & she wraps her little hand around my finger….& it’s my baby & her tiny hand.” I had no idea he was starting to think about these kinds of special moments & getting exited. I can’t wait to see my sweetie become a father! I think really it will be the baby who has him wrapped around HER finger. He’s going to be so enamored.
8 more weeks (give or take a little)! Our baby showers are this weekend. Lots more to do to get ready.
I was able to get a better video of the belly moving last night. It was kind of funny because toward the end, I looked over & realized Ben was pretending to record his belly too.
Baby was going bonkers last night! I was able to capture a little of it on video, but of course missed some of the best kicks. She must be a little camera shy. Watch the left side.
I was being a little silly for our belly pic session today and I struck a goofy pose & thought I’d share. Yes, I know I look creepy. Ben took his sweet time with snapping the picture, so I was holding this pose for a bit too long.
It’s been a while since I uploaded belly pics, so all of them are up now for the last few weeks. I still need to go back & post about our big gender reveal.
Little girl was going crazy last night! I’m pretty sure she’s laying sideways now, with her head on my right side. Last night, she started kicking & punching rapidly at the same time. It was pretty cool!
A few quick updates…. Overall, I have been feeling really well. I’ve started having some lower back pain (probably mostly due to my own horrible posture combined with the extra weight I’m carrying in front). My hip pain hasn’t been too bad lately though. I haven’t had much heartburn since that awful episode a few weeks back. This week I’ve started having trouble sleeping though. I sleep pretty well until some time between 3AM & 5AM, when I wake up & then have trouble falling back asleep. Then magically around the time my alarm starts going off, I get super sleepy & cannot seem to peel myself out of bed & then barely make it to work by 9:30 or 10AM…. which of course means I’m staying pretty late & kicking myself that I didn’t just go in earlier. Two days ago, Ben tried to listen to the baby’s heartbeat with just his ear pressed up against my belly and he heard it, which was pretty neat. That same day, I was caught using my belly as a table at work. It was pretty funny because I was slouched back in a chair in the cafeteria, with my feet up on another chair, sitting right next to the table, but holding my bowl on my belly. I didn’t eave realize I was doing it.
My mom has been trying to get the baby’s name out of me… unsuccessfully of course, but it’s cute that she’s trying. I just found out yesterday that I didn’t have a name for 2 days after I was born and apparently she had wanted to name me Reiko (pronounced Ray-Co). I like the Asian spelling, but I think I’m glad it didn’t pan out. I told her she was a hippie. What really struck me as funny is that when I told her we were keeping the name a secret, the first thing she said was “You’re not going to pick a weird name are you?” Look who’s talking! Haha!
Yesterday, we worked on some baby projects at Megan & Dritan’s house. Megan’s rock star mom made curtains for the baby room. I helped a little bit, but really she did all of the work & we are very thankful for her help. My mom cut pieces to make the crib skirt & is going to sew that some time soon. I started making some baby wipes. Megan helped a ton too with ironing & cutting fabric. Dritan & Ben were out in the shed building a book rack, which came out awesome! I’ll try to get some pics posted soon (or maybe after we paint it). Thanks so much to all of you for helping us! We are so blessed to have such awesome friends. I’m sure we’ll be repaying the favor some day soon 😉
We’ve been taking some classes with a local doula & have decided to hire her as our doula, so we’re excited about that. It will be great to have her support throughout the pregnancy, labor, & postpartum.
I think that’s it for now! Less than 100 days ’til we meet this little one, according to the widget on my phone. It’s so hard to believe. This last week flew by way fast!
It has been a busy last few weeks for baby shopping! I wanted to post some pics of all of the cute stuff we’ve been getting.
Ben’s mom sent us a bunch of goodies, pretty much as soon as she found out we’re having a girl:
It’s great to have some larger clothes for her to fit into next year. The decorative plate has a Bible verse that we’re planning to put on the wall in the nursery room. How thoughtful Lori was to hear me say that & remember it! The robot shirt is something she bought before she knew if we were having a boy or girl & we totally love it! The first thing Ben said when he saw it was “she is wearing this.” Haha
We went shopping with my mom yesterday and she got us some really adorable newborn outfits, including some cute little dresses for baby to wear to church. Who knew an August baby would be so fun to shop for? She also had picked up a “sound spa” a few years ago (got it on sale when she worked at JC Penney, assuming that one day she would have a grand baby). It puts pictures on the ceiling and plays lullabyes and white noise sounds to help baby sleep.
For those of you who know me, you’ll understand why I just HAD to have this adorable bodysuit with the crab on it. I figured my dad would get a kick out of it too. Here’s the back:
Speaking of adorable crab bodysuits… We picked this one up on our Cabo San Lucas vacation.
Ben picked up something like 29 clothing items for $79.50 at a church consignment sale. Way to go, Babe!
This one is probably my favorite. Watch out Heather, you’ve got competition coming! Hehe. (Sorry some of these pics are a little dark. It says “Current Family Favorite”)
I just found out there’s a big consignment sale at the Iowa State Fairgrounds twice a year & I just happened to do a search for local consignment sales online on the same day it was being held. We got a great deal on a bunch of socks, tights, wipes warmer, a travel changing pad thing, a Boppy, pacifier holder, & Halo sleep sack.
Ben has surprisingly also hit a few garage sales recently & gotten some clothes, shoes, stuffed animals, and even a Baby Bjorn baby carrier for $10.
Someone gave me a coupon code for Amazon, so I purchased a few things from our registry – diaper bag, Snuza (baby movement alarm), blanket, a swaddler, and a cool shelf thing for her wall.
This is the fabric we purchased for her room. We’re going to use the striped fabric to make curtains and a crib skirt.
My grandma went to a garage sale in Indianola for me and picked up a Moby Wrap. She said it’s light blue. Ben will probably like that better than the purple one I had picked out on our registry 😛 Thanks Grandma for doing that!
And as if all of that isn’t enough… coming soon to our house is a bunch of cloth diapers. I got in on some good sales, so I started ordering a few of the cloth diapers & supplies that I had put on our registry. I can’t believe how excited I am for them to hurry up & get here… but I’m even more exited to see her cute little bum in them.
So… it appears that this is going to be one spoiled little girl. Not only spoiled, but LOVED.
